Fans of Sarah Dessen and Huntley Fitzpatrick will enjoy this smart debut young adult novel, equal parts My Life Next Door and The Princess Diaries—plus a dash of Aaron Sorkin.
My reaction after I finished the book.
YOU CANNOT COMPARE THIS BOOK TO BOOKS MADE FROM HUNTLEY FITZPATRICK AND SARAH DESSEN. AND TO COMPARE IT TO THE PRINCESS DIARIES. NOOOOO.
THEY ARE IN NO WAY SIMILAR.

This book is overall a content read for me. I feel as if I did not connect to the book well enough.
WHAT I EXPECTED:
– a good,strong romance
-rebellious moments
-Andy as a bad-boy character
-Kate’s growing relationship with her father little-by-little
-a realistic political plot
-cry-hard moments
-okay writing
WHAT WE GOT
-good writing
-cute relationship (weird relationship)
-Andy (a goofy character)
-amazing mother-daughter connection
-realistic politics
-boring plot
-a lot of the wrapping up of the book being pushed to the end
WHY I DID NOT ENJOY THE BOOK
The love story between Kate and Andy did not click with me at all. I felt as if it were a childish, i like you relationship. And what annoyed me the most was the fact that the two kept repetitively, recieting how they hated the media. Like we get it, you Drama Queens. Now, move on from the topic. But I did like the cute, quirky part of the relationship. How he called her every night, him wanting to sneak out, and their goofy talks.
In my opinion, I found that Andy’s character was more like a jokster rather than a rebel. For instance, when he faked being drunk at one of the presidential events, haha, funny. (Comment c’est rebellious???) (how is that rebellious???)
WHAT I ENJOYED a lot was Kate’s character (love her) and the relationship that begun to grew with her and her new family. It really touched the heart and the writing was delightful to read. Throughout the novel, we see Meg getting to know Kate and really connecting with her, it was great. They really felt just like mother-daughter moments.
OVERALL, the writing and the relationship with Kate and her new family (Gabe-love him, Gracie-evil cutie, Queen MEG, Senator Mark) were exceptional. I recommend this novel to those who enjoy a plot filled with politics and new-found family drama.
