The Selection Series by Kiera Cass

J’adore ce livre. This whole entire series is amazing. i love the coming of age story and America’s independence throughout the book. This is an easy book to get into and is a fast read, it took me about 12 hours – 1 day to finish the series.  BREIF SUMMARY: This book is a Dystopian, Y.A., Chick-Lit, Fantasy and Sci-Fi book. This series is set after world war 4, I believe, in a country named illea. The government is a monarchy and citizens are divided into caste. The range of castes is between 1-8, the lower the number the better. These castes were decided by what citizens were able to offer in a War, a while back. For 35 girls, the SELECTION is the chance of a lifetime, this could change the lives of their family and theirs forever. They could go from rags to riches, a chance they’ve been waiting for since birth. All they have to do is compete for the heart of Prince Maxon… For America the SELECTION is by far the worst thing that has happen to her. It would mean leaving her family and the person she loves, Aspen. Soon, America has met Prince Maxon and is questioning herself. It seems the future she’s dreamed of may be nothing like she’s ever imagined.

MY THOUGHTS *SPOLIERS*: I’ve been wanting to read this book for a while now and now that I have, I am in AWE AND I LOVE IT. I could easily say I like Maxon more than Aspen in the book. At first I thought Aspen was withAmerica for the physical aspect of their relationship, since we didn’t really see his relationship with America in the book. To me, America’s relationship with Maxon sort of grew with me. America and Maxon leaned against each other through the book, making them the perfect pair. At times, when they fought I WAS FREAKING OUT, I couldn’t bare to turn to the next page. Then Aspen came along and it just messed everything up, you know? America feelings were everywhere at that point, and she had to figure out where she would want to go from there. BUT SERIOUSLY ASPEN, he dumped her for the sake of her own, then they meet once again in the palace and he wants her back, NO, JUST NO. IT IS 0-V-E-R, over. And then they made out, IT’s ILLEGAL seriously if you care about her STOP. Prince Maxon trying to woo America over, was the end of me. I just loved the little things he did for her, from sending little notes to showing her the incredible library. It showed that he really understood her and wanted to fight for her. BTW, I LOVED THAT THE KING DIED, not the queen though. Either way I knew in the end, all would end well.

America’s Friends:

Celeste: At first I down right hated her and wished she would get knocked out by someone (thank you America). But as the series progresses I see humanity in her and I end up liking her over Kira.

Kira: The princes 2nd choice. I DID not like her for the obvious reasons.

Marlee: MY LOVE. She is an amazing friend to America and it hurt when reading about Marlee and Carter getting canned. It was heart breaking for me to read, since Mer and Marlee are close, and the same thing could end up happening to Mer and Aspen.

The maids, Anne, Lucy, and Mary: I love their friendliness toward America, it is a genuine kind of feeling, one that is hard to find.  America brings life into their world and they return the favour, without them I think America wouldn’t have been able to last in the selection. It shows character the way that America stands up for the maids, which is mind altering in a good way. 🙂
